Inspired by Rock and Roll, Jazz, Fusion artists like , Billy Sheehan, Stuart Hamm, Les Claypool, Stanley Clark, Stanley Jordan, Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey and Michael Manring, Jaco Pastorius and many more just to name a few. Although he never had any formal training on the bass, he used his own perfect pitch to teach himself a multitude of tunes on the bass and electric guitar, ranging from rock and roll classics to great composer favorites. Justin decided to pursue his Music Theory degree. He moved to Austin, Texas and attended Austin Community College. While studying to complete his degree, he managed to find time to perform with local rock groups such as Hallopoint, PR, Porcine Grind and other Rock, R&B bands to name a few. Upon graduation from ACC, he moved back to West Texas. Justin would give bass lesson at the local college. He formed a rock band called Kaptain Krunch whose name was later changed to Fist Full of Freaks. The group played a variety of music including material from Primus, Rush, Ozzy, Johanna S. Bach, Mozart and original material. The Freaks had a number of guest appearances on local radio station 95X and performed at many parties.
Since that time, Justin joined a band called Blue Zone. Which stayed booked for an average of 250 days out of the year, the band performed blues-rock, classic rock and original material. While playing in Abilene, Texas the band was touted in the local newspaper as having been one of the best bands the critic had ever heard. He later performed on a regular basis with a band call the 3rd Degree, Electric Gypsy's. By this time he was twenty years old, performing regularly and professionally, subbing gigs reading charts and in some cases, sight-reading.
For the next several years traveling through the central USA, Justin performed for major label acts, airforce shows, motorcycle rallies, festivals and private parties. He performed at the Confederate Airforce Base in Abilene to a crowd of 20,000. It was here that he met the last of the living “Flying Tigers”. In 1998 Justin decided to pursue a high tech degree, which he felt would benefit his musical abilities. He obtained his degree from International Business School in April 2000 and soon after recorded his first solo self titled album out on F.O.S Records. He moved back to the Austin, Texas and was given the opportunity to have his solo album played on a continual basis, from local artist Paz Rheinstein, and Aliah Selah, cable SOTV station. Since living in Austin, Justin was giving the opportunity to sit in with Chris Duarte and Grammy award winner Jimmy Vaughn band and Blue Monday.
Justin has performed with former members of Galactic Cowboys, Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians and former drummer Jimmy Way x-member of the Chris Duarte Group. Justin & Jimmy Way are currently writing music for the band they call Under Duress. Justin has shared the stage with Kings X, Planet X, Joe Satriani, Doobie Brothers, Lynard Skynard, Charlie Daniel's, Collective Soul, Steve Miller, Willie Nelson (Twice), Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, The Governor of Texas Rick Perry, San Antonio Spurs, Roger Creagor, Diamond Rio, Omar and the Howlers, W.C Clark, Eric Johnson, Deadhorse and many others. Justin formed a two bass player project called Bass Station first formed in 2005. Justin is also known as aka (Just-n-Case and also known as Taps) Bass Station consist of Craig Whitaker aka (Crazy Legs) he is no longer with us (God Bless you Craig) and Justin Gray both two master bassist's with an extraordinary percussionist/drummer named Nathan Wilson aka (The Cosmic Clock). The Bass Station represents an evolution in the live performance of creative improvisational music.
The Bass Station plays styles of music ranging from Conversational Jazz, Fusion, Spiritual, Grooving, Funky, Relax'n, Latin, Feeling 'and Healing'....Edgy and Smooth.
Justin has worked with Lone Wolf Management Company from 2004 - 2006.

He has also obtained an additional degree from Virginia College at Austin in 2010.
